Humans of Pune- Salman Bagwan

Hello, my name is Salman Bagwan and I am 22 years old. I was born and raised in Pune, India. I come from a family with a humble background, where my grandfather worked as a sewer cleaner and my father followed in his footsteps. Growing up, my family faced financial hardships, with limited resources and often surviving on just one meal a day.

However, despite these challenges, I was fortunate to receive support and opportunities that changed the course of my life. My father, realizing the importance of education, enrolled me in a government school supported by an incredible nonprofit organization called Teach For India (TFI). With the guidance and dedication of my teachers at TFI, along with the support of my family, I worked tirelessly to shape a better future for myself.

In my 10th grade State Board Exam, I achieved outstanding results, topping in Mathematics and Social Studies in my school. My class, in that year, broke records across 320 Teach For India schools, with an impressive class average of 80.3% in Mathematics in the Maharashtra State Board Exam (SSC). I was especially proud to have scored 94 out of 100 in mathematics, making me the highest scorer in my school.

Being the first in my family to graduate, I will always cherish the moment when my father looked at me with pride as I received my engineering degree. This accomplishment made me realize the power of education and the opportunities it brings.

With a clear goal of becoming a software engineer, I dedicated myself to my studies. While both my grandfather and father were hardworking individuals, they never had the chance to pursue an education. In contrast, I had the privilege of holding a degree that would open doors to better prospects and opportunities.

I aspire to be a software engineer, contributing to India's growing economy. With Cognizant, a leading global IT company, I am proud to play a part in its success. As India is set to become the 3rd largest economy by 2026, I am excited to contribute in my own small way. Education has empowered me to make a difference.
